Some of Blair stepping into this role of possession isn't new territory. Her whole public life has been run through psychics, astrologers, and mediums.

Is an individual who would, like, be in college, would have, like, but at the time. Just good to keep in mind that they are referencing to, like, a Stephen or Steve connection. I don't know where that fits, but it came in. It's his middle name. Oh. And he only died in his dorm room at college. The Bible is specific about what happens when someone dies, and it isn't that.

Multiple psychics across her life told her darkness surrounded her. You can't believe psychics. But this pattern is what the Bible calls familiar spirits. And God was not quiet about it with Israel. There is not to be found among you anyone that maketh his son or daughter pass through the fire, and who useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

Consultor with familiar spirits covers the medium reading. Necromancer covers the seance with what she thought was Carrie Fisher, who had died. Every item on that list has a match somewhere in her own public story. So let's talk about Saul for a second. Saul died for the transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not. And also for asking counsel of the one who had a familiar spirit to inquire of it. Saul went into a medium at Endor right before his death. And no matter if you're Jewish or Christian, that's in your scriptures, the Torah and the prophets, along with anything before the Kabbalah folklore or the Paz brothers drawing a new script for Hollywood.

I don't think this is a stretch to say that reaching for a door at thirty thousand feet is self-destruction exactly the same way someone would throw themselves in the water or into a fire. The same event in Matthew's gospel is described with a medical word attached to it. Lord have mercy on my son for he is lunatic and sore vexed for oft times he fall into the fire and oft into the water, spiritual possession and a described physical condition named together in the same case by the gospel writer himself. Now, I'm not going to throw out multiple scroches that her lawyer says this is where it came from, but Matthew 424 lists possession or possessed with devils, lunatic, palsy and separate categories in the same verse. Not every illness is a demon.
9:48 And the Bible says so plainly. But scripture also tells us that possession can bring a strength the human body shouldn't be able to have. Who had his dwelling among the tombs and no man could bind him. No, not with chains because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains and the chains had been plucked asunder by him and the fetters broke into pieces. Neither could any man tame him. And of course, this is talking about the man who had a legion of demons in him. Now, I'm not saying Thelma Blair is legion. I'm saying that the Bible describes a real category when a frail human body does damage that shouldn't be possible. And to two flight attendants and a port authority officer and a nurse getting hurt by one woman in a space of a few hours. That really fits this category closely enough that it deserves to be at least questioned. Acts records some of the same things from the other side when men try to use the name of Jesus as a formula about the power behind it and the man in whom the evil spirit was leapt on them and overcame them and prevailed against them so that they fled out of the house naked and wounded possession doesn't have to look like Hollywood.

I still believe that Hollywood sells this loud version of possession, and I don't think it's as loud as we think it is. It's actually probably a lot more mundane. If you've ever had your cards read or kept a horoscope app or sat across from a medium the way Selma Blair has, the Bible calls that defiling and it calls you to walk away from it and to not carry it with you into the next room, not go to there, period. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes. That includes what we watch for entertainment. A possession film is not neutral background noise, even if it's made well. I'm praying for Selma Blair in the hospital, for her to heal in the hospital and for her spiritual life to heal as well or to find God.
